Modern Composite Deck with Lighting and Under-Deck Storage/Animal Control Barrier

Our customer had a redwood deck that was very dated and had quite a bit of unusable space.  She contacted DBS to discuss replacing it with a modern, low-maintenance composite deck.  After discussing the multiple options available, we designed a 13’ x 12’ deck with under-deck skirting.  In place of the aged wood walkway that extended along the side of the house, a stamped concrete walkway with solar lights was installed, giving the whole area a more modern look. The owner used Deckorators Voyage Sedona for the main body decking material.  To create a more personal design, she decided to also install a single-board picture frame border in Deckorators Vista Ironwood.  On the 5’-wide closed stairs, we used Sedona for the treads with Ironwood risers.  Every other stair riser features two Pikes Peak step lights from High Point Deck Lighting.  We installed a Fortress Fe26 steel deck railing in Antique Bronze with lighted post caps to add to the night-time lighting. The underdeck skirting is made with Deckorators Ironwood and features a gate below the stairs for easy access.  The skirting serves a couple of different purposes; it acts as a barrier to keep animals from getting under the deck, provides storage space for the owner, and adds a layer of design that makes this deck unique.  Our customer was ecstatic and immediately decorated her new deck for the holidays!
