Incredible Outdoor Living Space Transformation

The main goals of our clients’ outdoor renovation were to build a low maintenance outdoor living space and create more square footage.  The original deck was a modest 105 square feet.  Per the existing setbacks and easements, we would be constrained to a maximum size of 8′ x 24′ on the new deck.  However, we successfully collaborated with City Development Review to extend the deck an additional 2 feet.  After thorough discussions with the homeowners and City Development, we designed a spacious new deck measuring 10′ x 24′ – more than doubling our clients outdoor living space to 240 square feet!

The homeowners opted for a Fortress Evolution steel deck frame, known for its strength, durability, and Class A fire rating.  To combat the intense Colorado sun, we designed a gabled deck cover that features a vaulted tongue and groove ceiling, providing ample shade to the southwestern-facing deck.

In keeping with their vision, the owners chose the vibrant, multi-tonal Fiberon Sanctuary Moringa decking.  We incorporated single end and divider boards to achieve a seamless and polished finish.  The addition of a Fortress Fe26 steel deck railing, crowned with a Fiberon Moringa drink cap, offers a modern, low-maintenance solution.

For the vaulted ceiling of the deck cover, our clients selected WoodTone’s Canadian Ice Lager tongue-and-groove boards.  To ensure a cohesive look with the house, we used custom matched paints: Valspar Evening Sun for the soffit and Valspar Florentine Clay for the gutters, downspouts, and trim.
