Create Another Outdoor Living Space with an Under-Deck Drainage System

One of the main reasons for building a deck is to add outdoor living space to your home.  You can create the perfect place for relaxing and enjoying a cup of coffee as the sun rises or a glass of wine as the sun goes down.  If you are planning on building an elevated deck, you can double your outdoor living space by adding a Trex RainEscape system.  This will keep the area below dry but must be installed while the deck is being built.  If you have an existing deck, we can install a metal under-deck drainage system for you.

The space under your deck can then become a canvas for your creativity.  It can be transformed into a variety of functional and enjoyable spaces, and we have compiled a few ideas for you below to spark your imagination!

Outdoor Kitchen Area

You can create an elaborate, full-service outdoor kitchen with built-in grill, cooktops, refrigerator, countertops, etc.  Or just a simple built-in grill with counters and a dining area.  We have installed multiple outdoor kitchens over the years.  Some of them feature the built-in grills and countertops, and others have had complete mini-kitchens with fully-functioning sinks and under-counter refrigerators.  When designing an outdoor kitchen, consider the layout to ensure that the area is as functional and inviting as your indoor kitchen.

Hot Tub Oasis

One of the more popular uses for an under-deck patio is for a private hot tub area.  Most hot tubs are used all year long, even during the worst of winter.  Adding a hot tub to a deck requires additional framing, and therefore costs, to support the weight.  With an under-deck drainage system, you can add the hot tub area below the deck, which will keep rain or snow off of you during inclement weather, ensuring you can enjoy your hot tub in any season.

Relax With a Fire Pit

Adding a fire pit and seating area to an under-deck living space will allow you to enjoy a variety of entertainment, even in a light rain or snow.  Imagine sitting around the fire pit and making S’mores with the kids on a cool fall evening, creating a lasting memory for your kids or grandchildren that they will never forget!

Create a Dining or Bar Area

Some people, while not wishing to build a full outdoor kitchen, would like the option of dining outside.  You can add a protected dining or bar area with an under-deck drainage system.  The deck above will protect you from intense sun or inclement weather.

Create a Backyard Living Room

With a Trex RainEscape system installed, you can create a whole new outdoor living space that’s all about comfort and relaxation.  Comfy couches, armchairs, and tables will allow you to kick back and enjoy the fresh air with your family and friends.  By installing a television or projector system, you can create unforgettable family movie nights and exciting game days.  It’s a great way to add more living space to your home!

Other Ideas

Over the years, we have heard a myriad of ideas for transforming under-deck areas into outdoor living spaces, including:

  • Play area for children
  • Storage area
  • Potting area for gardeners
  • Create a shed by installing walls

The uses for the additional outdoor living space are only as limited as your imagination.  With a Trex system installed, you could also turn the area into a 3-season room using glass walls, doors, and windows.
